Softball Recap: Advanced Math & Science Academy Wins High-Profile Contest Against Maynard

Advanced Math & Science Academy faced Maynard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 7-0. Considering the Eagles have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Ava McLeod's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Brooke Laudate and Madelyn Glynn did most of the damage at the plate: Laudate went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Glynn went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Glynn has hit this season. Sophia Hammell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

The win was the fourth in a row for Advanced Math & Science Academy, bringing their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Maynard, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 8-2 record.

Looking ahead, Advanced Math & Science Academy will welcome Notre Dame Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Maynard, they will venture away from home to take on West Boylston at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.3, the Lions 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
