Baseball Recap: Tonopah Valley Comes Up Short

Tonopah Valley extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 9-8-1 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the ALA - West Foothills Guardians. The Phoenix were not able to make up for their defeat to the Guardians from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Matthew Hernandez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joshua Amaral, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for ALA - West Foothills, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games.

On ALA - West Foothills' side, Jaxson Garvey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Johnny Garcia was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. He has become a key player for ALA - West Foothills: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Slade, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Tonopah Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-2 loss against Benjamin Franklin on the 17th. ALA - West Foothills has also already played their next game (against Highland Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
