Basketball Recap: Ava Zicchinelli's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Miller Place over Kings Park

Miller Place was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost to the Kings Park Kingsmen at home by a 53-35 margin. The Panthers lost against the Kingsmen in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 68-27 score last time.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Zicchinelli, who went 7 of 9 on her way to 14 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Orenzo, who posted 16 points.

Even though they lost, Miller Place was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kings Park found their leader in sophomore Riley Currier, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Currier is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maddy Cooper, who put up six points and three steals.

Miller Place's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Kings Park, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Bayport-Blue Point the next time they take the court. Miller Place will head out to face Bayport-Blue Point at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, while Kings Park will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th.
