Softball Recap: Cumby Comes Up Short

Cumby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 7-2 to the Hawkins Hawks.

Bella Faulknor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.

On the hitting side, Ella Horne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kinslee Dowdle was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Cumby's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Hawkins, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8-1 record this season.

While Cumby had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
