Football Recap: Waynedale Comes Up Short at Home Against Tuscarawas Valley

Waynedale unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They and the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Golden Bears suffered a 21-20 loss. The Golden Bears have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Although Waynedale took the loss, they still got scores from Maddox Kidd, Kamden Alberson, and Lane Troyer.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Jayden Hochstetler for the heroic effort on defense: he. Waynedale didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.

A big part of Tuscarawas Valley's win came down to the chemistry between Beckam Himes and his top target Brody May. Himes rushed for 31 yards and a pair of touchdowns while May picked up 121 receiving yards and one TD. Those 31 rushing yards gave Himes a new career-high.
