Volleyball Recap: Berry Cardinals vs. Olympic Trojans
Berry lost against Olympic back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cardinals fell 3-1 to the Trojans. Cardinals fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Trojans since Thursday.
Berry started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.
Layla Byrd paced Berry's offense, picking up six kills. Byrd got some help from Sanye Miller and her six assists. Madison Curry controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
This is the second loss in a row for Berry and nudges their season record down to 3-9. As for Olympic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.
Berry and Olympic could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Cardinals will take on Cox Mill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (519 vs. 65). Meanwhile, Olympic (ranked 510th) will meet Hickory Ridge (ranked 148th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
