Volleyball Recap: Monroe Comes Up Short

If Monroe was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Clinton on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cheesemakers came up short against the Delavan-Darien Comets on Thursday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Cheesemakers in their meetings with the Comets: they've now lost seven in a row.

While Monroe was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-22, 25-17.

Riley Nicholson paced Monroe's offense, picking up six kills. Nicholson got some help from Brooke Bunker and her six assists. Fiona Junk and Kennedy Voegeli kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Delavan-Darien, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-10 record this season.

Monroe has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Big Foot on the 11th. As for Delavan-Darien, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Brodhead on the 11th.
