Softball Recap: Del Mar Triumphs

Del Mar proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Oak Grove Eagles 8-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-2 back in April.

Natalie Dixon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Niarah Aimonetti, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Maren Woodfill, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Del Mar's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Oak Grove, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Del Mar will welcome Prospect at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Dons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Oak Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.64 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
