Baseball Recap: Avon Grove's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Avon Grove ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Coatesville Red Raiders, sneaking past 6-5. The win was familiar territory for the Red Devils, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Avon Grove got a great performance from Grady O'Rourke as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts O'Rourke has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Nelson, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Avon Grove's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ken Askin, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Avon Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Avon Grove's record now sits at 11-6. As for Coatesville, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon Grove will head out to take on East at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coatesville, they will venture away from home to face off against Henderson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Red Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
