Plano West completes wire-to-wire No. 1 run with 6A state title triumph; D.J. Hogg's buzzer-beater takes down upset-minded Clear Lake; No. 3 Lancaster reigns in Class 5A.
Video: D.J. Hogg hits buzzer beater to win Texas state championshipFuture Texas A&M forward is cool under pressure.D.J. Hogg's 18-foot jumper in the last second of the final game of the 2014-15 UIL season secured the Class 6A state title for Plano West (Plano).
It also assured the Wolves and coach Anthony Morgan a wire-to-wire No. 1 ranking in MaxPreps Texas Top 25.
Hogg, a 6-8 forward signee with Texas A&M, scored 16 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter in Plano West's 56-54 victory over Clear Lake (Houston) in the championship game Saturday night at San Antonio's Alamodome. Capping his game MVP performance was the winning basket from the top of the key.
Moments before the winning shot, Hogg drew a charging foul to set up the Wolves' final possession.
Clear Lake, ranked No. 2, enjoyed a lead for much of the game by attacking the basket against the taller Wolves. Christian West and Bradley George paced the Falcons with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Lancaster retained the No. 3 slot in the ranking by defeating Ozen (Beaumont) 59-47 in the Class 5A title game.
