Basketball Game Preview: Wallkill Panthers vs. Spackenkill Spartans

Wallkill is 4-0 against Spackenkill since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Wallkill Panthers will look to defend their home court against the Spackenkill Spartans at 5:45 p.m. Wallkill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Wallkill came up short against Marlboro Central and fell 52-43.

Wallkill's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zoe Mesuch, who went 9 of 22 on her way to 23 points and seven boards, and Gabriella Gualtiere, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Mesuch's evening made it 17 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Wallkill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Spackenkill had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down the Huguenots 41-27.

Wallkill now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Spackenkill, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Wallkill against Spackenkill when the teams last played back in December of 2019, as the squad secured a 61-26 victory. Does Wallkill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Spackenkill turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
