Portage had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-8 to make it five. They took a blow against the Valparaiso Vikings, falling 34-3. The Indians lost against the Vikings in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 42-32 score last time.

Kodie Young threw for 57 yards on six of 22 attempts. Hunter Cole was his top target, picking up 27 receiving yards. On the ground, Stephen Johnson rushed for 55 yards.

As for Valparaiso, they moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Valparaiso's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kellan Hosek, who rushed for 79 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 108 yards and one touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Hosek has posted since back in October of 2024. Gage Finlay helped out on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Portage wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 35-22 loss against La Porte on the 17th. As for Valparaiso, they have also already played their next game, a 21-14 defeat against Lake Central on the 17th.
