Basketball Preview: Elbert County Blue Devils vs. Rabun County Wildcats
The Elbert County Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Rabun County Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Elbert County beat the Tigers 59-55.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Elbert County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aj Brown, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bob Thomas, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Rabun County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 77-65 win over Athens Christian.
Elbert County's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 7-17. As for Rabun County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.
Elbert County lost to the Wildcats on the road by a decisive 79-61 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rabun County's Cooper Welch, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Now that Elbert County knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
