Even though the West Philadelphia Speedboys scored an imposing 64 points on Thursday, the Math Civics & Sciences Mighty Elephants still came out on top. Math Civics & Sciences narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past West Philadelphia 67-64. Given Math Civics & Sciences' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while West Philadelphia is ranked 356th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Math Civics & Sciences got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Milak Myatt out in front who scored 20 points along with three steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Maki Hill was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Math Civics & Sciences and bumps their season record up to 6-4. As for West Philadelphia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.
Math Civics & Sciences will look to defend their home court on Monday against Audenried at 5:30 p.m. Audenried has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7. As for West Philadelphia, they will head out on the road to face off against Abraham Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Abraham Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully West Philadelphia likes a good challenge.
