Baseball Game Preview: Dougherty Valley Wildcats vs. De La Salle Spartans

Dougherty Valley is 1-9 against De La Salle since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Spartans at 1:00 p.m.

Dougherty Valley is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Wednesday. They lost 8-1 to Dublin.

Dougherty Valley got a good showing from Nicholas Johnson, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Johnson has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Dougherty Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Robbins, who went 1-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Robbins has hit this season.

Meanwhile, De La Salle had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Friday. They never let the Grizzlies get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

De La Salle's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Dougherty Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-20.
