Basketball Recap: South Aiken Takes a Loss

If South Aiken was riding high fresh off their 65-45 takedown of Gilbert last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Aiken Thoroughbreds had to suffer through a 76-48 loss at the hands of the North Augusta Yellow Jackets. The defeat continues a trend for the Thoroughbreds in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the loss, South Aiken saw an underclassman step up: sophomore David Kearse went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Kearse has posted since back in December of 2024. Kelton Walker was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

South Aiken's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for North Augusta, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-1.

South Aiken will head out to challenge Gray Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Augusta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Airport at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in North Augusta's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while Airport has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
