Baseball Recap: Westmoor Takes a Loss

Crystal Springs Uplands hit Westmoor with a seven-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams fell 9-6 to the Gryphons. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gryphons earlier this season, when they won 14-5.

Cristian Fausto was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Westmoor is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. Fausto was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Jeremy Zhang was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Darrick Monteverde also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Westmoor has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Crystal Springs Uplands, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 2-9-1 record.
