Prospect is on a four-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Niles West a nine-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Prospect Knights will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Niles West Wolves at 4:45 p.m. Prospect is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Prospect easily dispatched Sunlake two weeks ago, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Knights fell just short of Maine South by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.
Prospect got a good showing from Lucas Nelson, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Nelson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, John Aquino was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Niles West not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Von Steuben.
Niles West also got a great performance from Yacoub Rayan as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Niles West let Andrew Lim and Eli Ordower run wild. Lim scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Ordower scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Lim also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season.
Niles West's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Prospect, they now have a losing record of 1-2-1.
Niles West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Prospect hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for Niles West, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Prospect's hitters?
