Softball Recap: Morenci Wins Going Away Against Pima

While Morenci put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Pima. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Roughriders with a sharp 15-0 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.

Cameryn Woodall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tiara Jones, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jaliyah Hernandez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Morenci always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Morenci has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Pima, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morenci will venture away from home to square off against Benson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Pima, they will take on Duncan at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildkats will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Roughriders surely won't give up without a fight.
