West Mecklenburg had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 72-60 victory over the Berry Cardinals on Friday. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 64-50 loss the last time these two teams met.

Josiah Bridges had a dynamite game, putting up 22 points. Another player making a difference was Arion Walkup, who posted seven points and five boards.

Matthew Tyler and Chris Meriweather certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Tyler scored 15 points and three steals, while Meriweather had 14 points. Tyson Williams was another key player, posting eight points and five rebounds.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Mecklenburg will face off against Harding University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Berry, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on West Charlotte at 7:30 p.m. on December 2.
