Basketball Recap: Groves Falcons vs. Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks
Groves was the 61-55 winner over Bloomfield Hills when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Groves Falcons fell 62-51 to the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks on Friday.
Despite the loss, Groves saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Harlem Simpson dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. That was a full 45.1% of Groves' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kinley Roy also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Bloomfield Hills got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Briana Young out in front who went 9 of 12 en route to 24 points and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Young has scored at least a third of Bloomfield Hills' points. Evia Barbu was another key player, going 6 for 10 on her way to 19 points.
Groves' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Bloomfield Hills, their record now sits at 4-7.
Groves and Bloomfield Hills could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Groves will face off against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on Monday down 292 places (372 vs. 80). Meanwhile, Bloomfield Hills (ranked 321st) will meet Seaholm (ranked 120th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
