Preview: Oregon City Pioneers vs. Nelson
The Oregon City Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against Nelson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oregon City has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Oregon City has not done well against Westview recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Oregon City strolled past Westview with points to spare, taking the game 56-39.
Meanwhile, even though Caldera scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, Nelson still came out on top. Nelson put the hurt on Caldera with a sharp 84-58 win. Nelson's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Nelson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Lewis led the charge by scoring 23 points along with 8 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least 25% of Nelson's points. Another player making a difference was Braylon Gaines, who scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds.
Century's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Oregon City's loss dropped theirs to 1-2.
Oregon City took their victory against Nelson in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 68-48. Does Oregon City have another victory up their sleeve, or will Nelson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
