Softball Recap: Our Lady of Mercy Academy Victorious

Our Lady of Mercy Academy hadn't done well against Buena recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Villagers came out on top against the Chiefs by a score of 6-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-0 two weeks ago.

Marley Gerner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on 11 hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Riley Welker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

The victory made it two in a row for Our Lady of Mercy Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Buena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Buena, they will challenge Lower Cape May at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.76 runs per game on average), something the Chiefs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
