Softball Preview: Starr's Mill Panthers vs. Newnan Cougars
A feisty cat fight will be fought when Panthers faces off against the Newnan Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Starr's Mill finally turned things around against Jonesboro on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Newnan never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Alexander last Thursday. They blew past the Cougars 10-1.
The team relied heavily on Addison Smith, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Presley Ivey, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Newnan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexander only posted a batting average of .062.
Starr's Mill's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-13. As for Newnan, the win got them back to even at 13-13.
