Softball Recap: Hillcrest Has No Trouble Against Heritage

Hillcrest was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Heritage on Tuesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 9-3 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Ashley James spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hillcrest let Nicole Riddell and X-Ziary Zambrano run wild. Riddell went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Zambrano went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Natalia Pulido was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Hillcrest lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage didn't launched any home runs.

Hillcrest's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillcrest will face off against Arlington at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Heritage, they will challenge Vista del Lago at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots are facing the Ravens at the right time seeing as the Ravens are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
