Volleyball Game Preview: Steele Comets vs. Springfield Blue Devils

The Steele Comets will head out on the road to square off against the Springfield Blue Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Wednesday, Steele was able to grind out a solid victory over Avon, taking the game 3-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Comets.

Steele had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Springfield waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 3-0 win.

Springfield never let Northview on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Steele now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Springfield, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Steele has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Steele might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Springfield when the teams last played back in March. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Blue Devils' Jonah Sheppard, who had 20 digs and two aces. Now that the Comets know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
