Basketball Recap: Monte Alto's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Two

IDEA Quest College Prep came into Friday's game looking for another win against Monte Alto, but Ricky Serrano wouldn't allow it. The Monte Alto Blue Devil rang in the new year with a 68-61 win over the IDEA Quest College Prep Trailblazers on Friday thanks in part to Serrano, who went 16 of 25 on his way to 42 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Monte Alto's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Drago Hernandez, who posted five points along with six steals and five boards. That's the most steals he has posted since back in November of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Monte Alto and bumps their season record up to 12-10. As for IDEA Quest College Prep, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-6.

Monte Alto will venture away from home to challenge IDEA Edinburg College Prep at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Monte Alto knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully IDEA Edinburg College Prep likes a good challenge. As for IDEA Quest College Prep, they will welcome Vanguard Academy Beethoven at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vanguard Academy Beethoven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season.
