Basketball Recap: Otay Ranch Drops Season-High Score on Granite Hills

Otay Ranch scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 82-81 to the Granite Hills Eagles. Even though they lost, the Mustangs' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 51.4 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Otay Ranch's loss came despite strong showings from Jordyn Webster and Nyno Lopez. Webster almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine blocks, while Lopez went 6 of 12 on his way to 22 points. Those nine blocks gave Webster a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Johann Omae, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Granite Hills' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andre Dankha, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Dankha's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lathan Fry, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Otay Ranch has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Granite Hills, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-8.

Otay Ranch will welcome Patrick Henry at 3:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Granite Hills, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-54 win against Clairemont on the 3rd.
