Volleyball Recap: Fairhope Takes Down Ranked Bayside Academy + How To Watch

Fairhope faced Bayside Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Pirates walked away with a 3-1 win over the Admirals. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Admirals on September 13th, they had to take a 2-1 loss.

Fairhope had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Gabbi Berlage paced Fairhope's offense, picking up 13 kills. Berlage got some help from Libby Rogers and her 29 assists. Berlage was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Bayside Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mary Katherine Whitehurst, who had 14 digs and two aces, and Reece Wilmott, who had 13 kills and six digs. Whitehurst is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

The victory got Fairhope back to even at 14-14. As for Bayside Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 23-12 record.

Fairhope has already played their next match, a 3-0 win against St. Luke's Episcopal on the 2nd. As for Bayside Academy, they will take on Saraland at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
