Volleyball Recap: Gilbert Indians vs. Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles
If Gilbert was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Airport on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians fell just short of the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the War Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Gilbert sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-23, 22-25, 28-26, 23-25, 15-5.
Gabby Esposito paced Gilbert's offense, picking up 24 kills. Esposito got some help from Kaylie Spires and her 32 assists. Spires also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Abigail Widmann, each putting up four.
Gray Collegiate Academy was led to victory by Colby Branham and Haylen Lawson. Branham had seven digs and four aces, while Lawson had 23 digs and two aces. What's more, Branham racked up 24 assists, the most she's had over her last 11 matchups.
