Baseball Game Preview: West Liberty-Salem Tigers vs. Greenon Knights

The West Liberty-Salem Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Greenon Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Greenon took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on West Liberty-Salem, who comes in off a win.

West Liberty-Salem took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Northeastern.

The team relied heavily on Isaiah Reames, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Caleb Hershberger was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Greeneview hit Greenon with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights came up short against the Rams, falling 11-1. The Knights have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Greenon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Fields, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Greenon's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for West Liberty-Salem, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. West Liberty-Salem has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greenon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went West Liberty-Salem's way against Greenon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as West Liberty-Salem made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
