Baseball Recap: Ayala Triumphs

Ayala took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Cypress, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Centurions on Wednesday, sneaking past 5-3. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 10-1 victory the Centurions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Ayala got a great performance from Easton Sarmiento as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Sarmiento has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Aidan Erlandsen was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Valenzuela, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Ayala lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Ayala has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Cypress, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Ayala didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-3 defeat against Aquinas on the 27th. As for Cypress, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-1 victory against Birmingham on the 27th.
