Baseball Recap: McCluer Takes a Loss

McCluer lost against STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Comets fell 11-7 to the Bulldogs.

Xavier Hill put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He has become a key player for McCluer: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Colt Gates made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. William Speed was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

McCluer has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, McCluer will head out on the road to square off against Riverview Gardens at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
