Softball Preview: Triad Knights vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

The Triad Knights will take on the Mt. Vernon Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Triad will be strutting in after a win while Mt. Vernon will be coming in after a loss.

On Tuesday, Triad needed a bit of extra time to put away Highland. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 6-5. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by just one run.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Centralia on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Orphans by a score of 2-1. The Rams have struggled against the Orphans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Taylor DeSmith spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arwin Wilkey, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
