Basketball Recap: Coshocton Extends Winning Streak to Five

Coshocton hadn't done well against New Lexington recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Coshocton Redskins walked away with a 60-52 win over the New Lexington Panthers. Given the Redskins' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Panthers are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coshocton had a senior duo take command as Colton Conkle went 7 of 16 en route to 26 points and six rebounds and Alex Taylor went 7 for 10 on his way to 20 points and eight boards. Conkle's evening made it 17 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Blayden Workman, who posted eight points.

When it comes to explaining why New Lexington lost, don't look at Isaiah Stephens. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 11 to rack up 22 points and five boards. That was a full 42.3% of New Lexington's points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bentley Hanson, who scored 12 points and seven rebounds.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Coshocton, bringing their record for this year to 15-2. As for New Lexington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Coshocton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 64-59 loss against River View on the 4th. As for New Lexington, they have also already played their next contest, a 72-45 defeat against Maysville on the 4th.
