Volleyball Recap: Mt. Vernon Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Amelia Anderson and Aubry Dowling

Mt. Vernon lost against Brownstown Central back in October of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Marauders fell just short of the Braves by a score of 2-1. The Marauders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Mt. Vernon's loss came despite strong showings from Aubry Dowling and Amelia Anderson. Dowling had 14 digs and one assist, while Anderson had 14 assists and four digs. Anderson has been hot for a while, having posted 13 or more assists the last 20 times she's played.

Brownstown Central had a senior duo take command as Finley Wheeler had five digs, four aces, and one block and Sophie Wischmeier had ten kills, eight digs, and three aces. Olivia Fritz was another key player, getting 11 digs and two aces.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Brownstown Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Mt. Vernon and Brownstown Central will both be playing Floyd Central the next time they take the court. The Marauders will head out to face the Highlanders at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, while the Braves will play them later in the day, at 12:30 p.m.
