Baseball Recap: Chester Wins Going Away Against Portola

Chester's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-7 margin over the Portola Tigers. Considering the Volcanoes have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Patrick Gerbatz was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Jensen, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.

Gerbatz wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Chester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Chester has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. Portola dropped their record down to 3-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Chester will challenge Loyalton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Portola, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-8 win against Virginia City on the 28th.
