Baseball Game Preview: Brother Rice Crusaders vs. Chicago Mt. Carmel Caravan

For the second straight game, Brother Rice will face off against Chicago Mt. Carmel. The Crusaders will welcome the Caravan at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Brother Rice's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Chicago Mt. Carmel's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Brother Rice is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Chicago Mt. Carmel just ended the team's 25-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Caravan by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Crusaders have suffered since March 22nd.

For Chicago Mt. Carmel's part, Jake Matise spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Matise has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Logan Fernandez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Mario Medina, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

With the victory, Chicago Mt. Carmel broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 17-11. As for Brother Rice, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 26-2.
