Football Game Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Foothill Falcons

Basic and Foothill are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Basic has given up an average of 33.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Basic is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 49-34 to Coronado.

Despite their loss, Basic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jayveon Rose, who threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in two rushing scores, was perhaps the best of all. The Wolves' leading receiver Parker Simmons was Rose's top target yet again, picking up 90 receiving yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Foothill faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Falcons came up short against the Patriots, falling 50-30.

Despite the defeat, Foothill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryder Dobbs threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 65 yards and one score. The Falcons are 2-1 when Dobbs posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Foothill's leading receiver Braxton Bonnett was Dobbs' top target yet again, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Basic, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Rose and Dobbs. Rose just won't slow down this season and has thrown 12 touchdowns while averaging 210.8 passing yards per game. Dobbs has been a dominant force too and has thrown 13 touchdowns while averaging 159.5 passing yards per game.

Basic was able to grind out a solid victory over Foothill in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 39-29. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
