Basketball Game Preview: North Mesquite Stallions vs. West Mesquite Wranglers

The North Mesquite Stallions will face off against the West Mesquite Wranglers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, North Mesquite turned things around against Adams on Friday. They blew past the Cougars 58-25. The Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

North Mesquite found their leader in freshman Syniyah Grigsby, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Grigsby has scored at least a third of North Mesquite's points. Taniya Epps was another key player, putting up 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

North Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, West Mesquite rang in the new year with a 45-34 victory over Seagoville on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wranglers.

West Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for North Mesquite, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-13.

North Mesquite couldn't quite finish off West Mesquite in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 30-27. Can North Mesquite avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
