Softball Game Preview: Parkwood Wolf Pack vs. Piedmont Panthers

The Parkwood Wolf Pack will head out on the road to take on the Piedmont Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Monday just wasn't the day for Parkwood's offense. They fell 3-0 to Central Academy on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Wolf Pack's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Chloe Purgason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

West Stanly typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Piedmont proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Colts. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Piedmont also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jailyn Thomas gave up only one earned run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Tara Deese was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aly Mills, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Parkwood's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Piedmont, their record now sits at 14-5.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Parkwood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Piedmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Parkwood suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Piedmont in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wolf Pack avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
