Peyton Hines made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Westmont is 2-1 when Hines posts three or more hits, but 3-18-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Roman Soto was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Xavier Mizer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Willow Glen had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They skirted past the Chargers 4-2. Four seems to be a good number for the Rams as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Tyson Paganini and Nolan Wirtz dominated on the mound. Paganini pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Wirtz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Paganini has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Willow Glen's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Austin Korba, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Korba is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games he's played.

Willow Glen's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Westmont, their record is now 5-19-1.

Westmont was able to grind out a solid win over Willow Glen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
