Softball Game Preview: Hamilton Emerald Knights vs. Sauquoit Valley Indians

The Hamilton Emerald Knights will square off against the Sauquoit Valley Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Hamilton took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand West Canada Valley an 18-0 shutout. The Emerald Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

Ellie Freeth was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eve McCorkle was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Rihana Dye was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Hamilton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sauquoit Valley hadn't done well against Hamilton recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way. The Indians came out on top against the Emerald Knights by a score of 10-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Hamilton's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Sauquoit Valley, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3.
