Softball Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. Vancleave Bulldogs

Stone is 2-7 against Vancleave since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Stone Tomcats will head out on the road to take on the Vancleave Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Stone is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Stone was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Wayne County by a score of 2-1.

Reeana Williams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run.

Even though they lost, Stone didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne County only tossed three.

Meanwhile, Vancleave scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They blew past De La Salle 14-4. The win was just what Vancleave needed coming off of an 18-5 loss in their prior matchup.

Brooklyn Rhodes was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kendel Northrop, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Stone's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Vancleave, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Stone came out on top in a nail-biter against Vancleave in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stone since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
