Basketball Recap: Commerce Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

With a playoff win on the line, Commerce rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Dodge County Indians by a score of 65-53. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Indians are ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Commerce found their leader in sophomore Ty Sorrells, who went 5-for-7 on his way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Sorrells also brought in his first three-point shooting accuracy of the season. Another player making a difference was Bryson Parks, who went 5-for-10 en route to 11 points and three steals.

Commerce has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points over those games. Dodge County is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-13.

Looking ahead, Commerce will head out on the road to challenge Putnam County at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Putnam County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Commerce likes a good challenge. Dodge County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
