Basketball Recap: White Mountain's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

It was fun while it lasted, but White Mountain's undefeated season came to an end after six games on Friday. They fell to the Shaktoolik Wolverines 64-58. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Wolves, who until this game were averaging 26 points allowed.

When it comes to explaining why White Mountain lost, don't look at Lillian Lausten-Katongan. Despite the final result, she went 11 of 22 en route to 27 points. Those 27 points gave Lausten-Katongan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyri Adams, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Shaktoolik's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Katchatag, who put up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annette Paniptchuk, who earned 14 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, White Mountain fell to 6-1. As for Shaktoolik, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Hogarth Kingeekuk Sr. Memorial the next time they take the court. White Mountain will head out to face Hogarth Kingeekuk Sr. Memorial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Shaktoolik will play them later in the day, at 6:45 p.m.
