Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Madison Morgan and Molly Showalter Lead Lacrosse to Victory

After losing to Hoisington the last time they met, LaCrosse decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The LaCrosse Leopards put the hurt on the Hoisington Cardinals with a sharp 48-26 win on Saturday. The Leopards have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

LaCrosse was led to victory by Molly Showalter and Madison Morgan. Showalter posted 16 points and six steals, while Morgan dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Morgan's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hannah Dellett, who earned eight points and six boards.

LaCrosse smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Hoisington still got an impressive performance from Ellie Crawford, who scored eight points. Crawford has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Kelsi Maier was another key player, putting up five points and ten rebounds.

LaCrosse has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Hoisington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. LaCrosse will square off against St. John at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (LaCrosse: 29, St. John: 27.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
