Baseball Recap: Santa Clara Comes Up Short

Santa Clara lost against Carpinteria last Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Santa Clara Saints took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carpinteria Warriors. The defeat leaves the Saints still looking for their first win of the season.

Dylan White put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He also put up two hits, which were his first of the season.

White wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Yandel Vargas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Vargas also got a hit, marking his first of the season. Another was Christopher Alcala, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Santa Clara's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Carpinteria, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Santa Clara will host Nordhoff at 11:00 a.m. on March 8th. As for Carpinteria, they will venture away from home to square off against Orcutt Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
