Baseball Recap: Cochranton Find Success

Cochranton hadn't done well against Maplewood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cardinals walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Tigers. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 19-4 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Walker Carroll made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bradyen Burnette, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Cochranton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Tim Deeter was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Cochranton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Maplewood, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Cochranton will take on Mercer at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. Maplewood has already played their next game (against Jamestown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
