Softball Game Preview: Cornwall Central Dragons vs. Wallkill Panthers

The Cornwall Central Dragons will square off against the Wallkill Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Cornwall Central has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Wallkill will arrive with six straight victories.

Cornwall Central came up short against Valley Central on Thursday, falling 12-3.

Meanwhile, Wallkill won against Rondout Valley on Monday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past Our Lady of Lourdes 7-1. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Madison Auger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gianna Allessandro, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikaela McCue, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Wallkill's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Cornwall Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
